Booking flight LS946

21 Euros!
21 bloody Euros was all it was going to cost to fly from Amsterdam to Manchester! If I booked it on Monday.

By Tuesday however it was 36 euros.
36 bloody euros.
Not a lot. But still 12 more (or there abouts, as if counting is my strong point) than yesterday.

Now, I'm nosey. I wanted to wait 'till Wednesday to see how much it would cost to get to Manchester. But I'm also half Dutch and half Scottish, which makes me a cross-breed of the two stingiest nationalities in the world. So I booked on Tuesday.

Airport tax.
I have no idea, what-so-ever, what airport tax is, what it's for or who put it there.
So, let's google it and find out...
Nothing.
Wikipedia...
Nothing.

Nowhere can you find out what airport tax actually is, what it's for or who put it there.
Or why some airports have a higher airport tax than other airports. Does this mean that their runways are safer?
If Liverpool's airport tax is higher than Manchester's does that mean that I've got a greater chance of surviving the flight (although Liverpool's airport is called "John Lennon international airport" and considering how he ended up, I don't think I'll take the chance no matter what the tax charges are)?

Mastercard booking charges.
Let's get this straight. I'm booking online which means there's no way I can pay in cash and I have to use a credit card. All credit cards having booking charges. Some of them higher than others...
Again the fucking question: Does this mean that certain credit card companies promise safer journeys? I think not.

So, the final price from Amsterdam to Manchester is 72 euros and 17 cents.
(gets out calculator)
DOUBLE the price (+ 17 cents) from what the price promised to be online.

Now, I don't lose my temper at airports, but someone surely has got to point this out to these people?
Someone has got to lose their temper, promise to rip out intestines and get proper prices up on these fucking websites.

Please Ganesh, let it not be me...

It could be worse. Airlines here have a habit of advertising a flight at one price, and then when you book they charge a "fuel surcharge" which effectively doubles the price of the flight. I've never really thought of the fuel on the aircraft as an optional extra...

I've heard of these fuel surcharges as well.

When in Amsterdam, should they try to apply such a measure to my ticket, I fear that I may have to (once again) lose my temper.

Something which doesn't happen very often.

Ah, but there's a way around these fuel surcharges...

Make sure every highway in the Netherlands is jammed on your way to Amsterdam Airport, so you'll arrive about 30 minutes before your plane leaves.
Beg the stewardess to please, please, please kindly but firmly to get you on that plane.

She'll be too busy to think about surcharges ;)
